Children and Youth
Wesley Community Center recognizes the dynamic changes that take place during adolescence. Youth Services offers a variety of programs that meet the developmental needs of Youth who are currently in the sixth through twelfth grades.
The “Skills for Success” Program offer small group sessions that run for a semester. Groups include up to fifteen students and take place at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The group’s sessions are based on the Social Decision Making/Social Problem Solving curriculum, which is recognized as a model program by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Prevention. Topics include: self-control and self-calming strategies, confident and effective communication, coping with stress, and recognizing feelings. Being prepared to enter the job market is an invaluable skill for young adults. The Job Readiness Program will focus on those youth who are 16 years and older that are interested in obtaining employment. Skills training will include: resume writing, interest inventory, job skills portfolio, career counseling, and access to a job bank.
The Student/Parent Resource Center is for parents and their middle school youth who are in need of assistance in the areas of education, parenting skills, job opportunities, community services, intensive case management, and outside community referrals. Services include: homework assistance, tailored youth workshops, parenting workshops, community service opportunities, and field trips.
The After School Enrichment program runs from 3:15 to 5:30, Monday through Friday. An array of activities are planned to continue the learning process in a fun and encouraging way. Some of the activities include: homework assistance, arts and crafts, games, outdoor recreation, cooking classes, and field trips.
