During 2008 Wesley Community Center is embarking on an exciting project: The Kurtz Family Education & Recreation Center will be designed and built. Through the generosity of a 1 million dollar lead gift, Wesley is stepping out in faith with a capital campaign to raise at least an additional 2 million dollars for this unique project.

The Kurtz Center Highlights

• It will be “green” – We will seek to receive LEED® certification as an energy efficient and environmentally healthy facility. We will utilize the features of the new building to teach clients, visitors, and supporters the importance of being the best possible stewards of God’s creation.

• It will house:
A safe and beautiful public entrance with check-in counter and controlled access for the safety of our children and youth.
A high school qualified basketball court on a multi-purpose floor that can be utilized by the larger community for community events and meetings. This will include a large screen for “family night at the movies” and an integrated Audio/Visual center. Locker rooms with showers will be built as well.
A walking track will be built for use by persons of all ages to stimulate a greater awareness of and participation in healthy physical activities.
A computer lab with 20 work stations will be provided that will house state-of-the-art systems for tutoring and teaching children, youth, and adults. These resources will better equip users for success in the knowledge economy.
Three meeting rooms for tutoring, community/small business meetings, and forums utilizing state-of-the-art technology, including smart boards and other audio/visual formats that facilitate the use of computer technology.
A nature walk that will offer important green space and educational space for children. Native Texas plants and flowers will be utilized. Children and youth from our center will work in the nature walk to keep it vital, learn about the native plants that will be in it, and become more aware of the important relationship between themselves and the natural world.
