Our goals for Houston’s Northside Village are to:
-Enrich lives with education and character building opportunities.
-Help families become healthy, happy, and prosperous.
-Enable economically stressed families to become strong and independent
1904 - Women from First United Methodist Church, Houston opened Wesley House with the mission of improving the quality of life for mothers and their young children in Houston's Near Northside neighborhood.
1942 - The Methodist Women's Houston District Board of Missions was incorporated as a nonprofit agency.
1973 - Wesley Community Center, Inc. of Houston, Texas became the official agency name.
1976 - Wesley Community Center was designated a member agency of the United Way of Greater Houston.
1986 – Through an agreement with the Houston Methodist Board of Missions, Wesley became responsible for programs at Anchor House in the Fourth Ward and at El Centro Metodista in the Near Northside.
70s – 90s - Wesley responded to increased community needs by expanding its facilities and programs to include a food co-op, childcare centers, Police Community Services office, drug education, and tutoring and support for teens.
1995 - Completed capital campaign for renovation and expansion of Wesley's main facility on 1410 Lee Street adding a Youth Services wing, Case Management section and Technology Lab.
2004 - Wesley Centennial Year - Celebrated a Century of Service |
