The Kurtz Education and Recreation Center

On January 14, 2012, Wesley Community Center dedicated the Kurtz Education and Recreation Center. With over 250 guests in attendance, our dream for a new building has become a reality.

Those present included Mr. and Mrs. Gene Kurtz and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Palmer and family. Both families were very important to the celebration. Mr. Kurtz, a business owner in the Near Northside neighborhood, had a dream that his employees' children and would have somewhere to go after school and in the summer. Mrs. Ruth G. Palmer was honored for her many years of service to Wesley by naming the basketball court in her honor.

Mr. Michael Shirl, Executive Director of Wesley Community Center, the Board of Directors, and the building Committee participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony.Those present included City Councilman Ed Gonzalez, Harris County Precint 2 Commissioner Jack Morman, and Central South District Superintendent of the United Methodist Church, Rev. Lawrence Young. Entertainment was provided by the Marshall Middle School orchestra. The day concluded with tours and lunch provided by Goode Co. Barbeque.
